Older People
In South Lakeland 27% of the population is aged over 60
which is higher than the Cumbrian and national average.
Predictions show that this figure will increase substantially by
2016.
In 2008 SLDC undertook an exercise to understand the needs of
Older People in South Lakeland, the Older People Circle of
Need Report was widely welcomed as a document which could
help shape services into the future.
To reduce duplication of work and improve access to services for
older people South Lakeland District Council, Cumbria County
Council, Cumbria PCT, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Cumbria
Police, Age UK South Lakeland and the Department of Work &
Pensions agreed to commence a programme of work together suitably
named the Older People Programme
Board with the vision of;
"improving services and opportunities for Older
People in South Lakeland, ensuring they remain healthier and
independent for longer"
